India tour of Sri Lanka 2021: On one hand, where a team of India is on a tour of England, on the other hand BCCI has sent another team to Sri Lanka. This is happening for the first time in the history of Indian cricket, when two teams of India will play international cricket against different countries at the same time. While Virat Kohli will lead the Test team in England, Shikhar Dhawan has been given the responsibility of captaincy in Sri Lanka.
In Sri Lanka, India has to play a three-match ODI series and an equal number of Test series. This tour is to begin with the ODI series. Earlier this series was to start on July 13, but due to the entry of Corona in the Sri Lankan camp, now this series will start from July 18. Several Indian players are expected to make their international debut in the limited overs series against Sri Lanka.
Padikal scored 737 runs in the Vijay Hazare tournament (50 over match) at an average of 147.4. Apart from this, he scored 473 runs in 15 matches in IPL 2020 and 195 runs in six matches in IPL 2021 season. In view of his explosive form, he has been selected for the Sri Lanka tour.
Maharashtra batsman Rituraj Gaikwad has been taken on the basis of IPL performance. He scored three half-centuries in six matches of IPL 2020, while he scored half-centuries in two out of seven matches of IPL 2021.
Nitish Rana is an important player of Kolkata Knight Riders and has played as a middle order batsman as well as opening. Rana scored 398 runs in seven matches of Vijay Hazare Trophy. It will be interesting to see whether Dravid gives him a chance to debut or not.
The selection of Karnataka off-spinner Krishnappa Gautam was shocking. He did not perform well in the recent domestic tournaments including the IPL. Krishnappa played only two matches in IPL and took one wicket. Despite this, he has been selected for the limited overs series against Sri Lanka.
Varun Chakraborty has been a successful player of Kolkata Knight Riders. He took seven wickets in this season of IPL and 17 wickets in the last season i.e. 2020 season. Varun was also selected for the Australia tour, but later had to withdraw due to injury.
Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Chetan Sakariya was selected ahead of Jaydev Unadkat. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.2 crore. Sakariya can be helpful for Team India and maybe he can also get a place in the team.
