Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court has sent samples of a person seriously infected with corona virus to a hospital in Vadodara for using ‘IVF/Assisted Reproductive Technology’. (ART) for the procedure, as the patient’s life expectancy is very low and his wife wants to be the mother of his child.
The court called it an ‘‘extraordinary situation’’ Accepting the order in the matter on Tuesday. After an urgent hearing on the petition of the patient’s wife, Justice J. Shastri started a hospital in Vadodara with ‘IVF/Assisted Reproductive Technology’. (ART) to collect the patient’s sample for the procedure and keep it in proper place as per medical advice.

Nilay Patel, the lawyer of the patient’s wife, said that the petitioner wants to become the mother of her child through IVF / ART process, but the hospital does not allow it So he had to approach the court. The court said, ‘‘In view of an exceptionally important situation, interim relief is granted for now and this relief will be subject to the decision coming after the completion of the hearing of the petition’’ Has also been asked to issue a notice to clarify its stand on the matter by July 23.

Patel said that the petitioner says that many organs of her husband infected with corona virus stopped functioning and he is on life support system. According to the doctors, there is little hope of survival of the patient.
