The Income Tax Department on Thursday raided the premises of media group Dainik Bhaskar located in various cities on charges of tax evasion. These raids are being conducted in Bhopal, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and some other places. The opposition has united against the government over these raids. First, there was a fierce ruckus on this issue in the Rajya Sabha and then by tweeting it also targeted the Modi government.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala has tweeted that along with Bhaskar, now there is an income tax raid at the house of Brijesh Mishra, chief editor and senior journalist of Bharat News Channel. When the government is so afraid of the pen and camera, the downfall of such a government is certain. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh tweeted, “Journalism is attacked by Modi Shah!! Modi Shah’s only weapon is IT ED CBI. I am sure Agarwal brothers will not be afraid. Guerrilla action by Income Tax Investigation Branch at various locations of Dainik Bhaskar Started. Income Tax team is present at half a dozen places including Press Complex.”
At the same time, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticized the raids of the Income Tax Department on the offices of Bhaskar and Bharat Samachar news channel, calling it an attempt by the central government to suppress the media. Gehlot tweeted, “The Income Tax raid on the offices of Dainik Bhaskar newspaper and Bharat Samachar news channel is an attempt to suppress the media. The Modi government cannot tolerate even the slightest criticism of it. It is the fascist mindset of the BJP which is prevalent in a democracy.” Doesn’t even like to see the mirror of truth. By taking such action, the Modi government wants to suppress the media and send a message that if Godi does not become the media, then the voice will be crushed.”
Mamata Banerjee also criticized
TMC chief Mamata Banerjee said in a tweet, “Attack on journalists and media houses is yet another brutal attempt to crush democracy. Dainik Bhaskar bravely told how Narendra Modi ji handled the entire Kovid crisis in a wrong way and in a terrible way. Taking the country to its worst days amid the pandemic. I strongly condemn this vengeful act aimed at stifling the voices that bring out the truth.”
At the same time, Nawab Malik, a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government, said, since the Pegasus espionage case has come into the limelight, the central government has started targeting those who are exposing them. The latest victim is Dainik Bhaskar.
