Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Legislative Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution expressing solidarity with the people of Lakshadweep. The proposal calls for the island’s administrator Praful Khoda Patel to be recalled, and the Center is requested to intervene immediately, to protect the lives and livelihoods of the island’s people.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala introduced the government proposal, which is thus the first proposal in the 15th assembly. He recalled the historical and cultural connections between the people of Kerala and Lakshadweep and condemned the Center for its alleged attempt to destroy natural democracy there.
He said that the future of Lakshadweep is a matter of concern and weakening its unique and local lifestyle is unacceptable. The Chief Minister appealed that those supporting the upholding of constitutional values should strongly oppose the steps of the Administrator of Lakshadweep.
Bypassing their political differences, members of the ruling CPI (M) -led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) unanimously supported the proposal. The UDF suggested some modifications to it.
The proposal states that by destroying the local lifestyle and ecological system in Lakshadweep, the & lsquo; saffron agenda & rsquo; And an attempt is being made to impose corporate interests. It alleges that the implementation of the agenda, launched in the name of reform, was started by coloring coconut trees with saffron and now it has risen to such a level that the traditional habitat, life and natural relations of the islanders are being harmed is.
The resolution states that the rate of crime in the island is exceptionally low, despite this, steps were taken to implement the goonda law. The proposal states that the authorities want to destroy traditional means of livelihood like fishing.
It alleges that the Sangh Parivar’s agenda of banning cow slaughter is being implemented from the back door by attempting to exclude beef that is part of the natural diet of the people of the region.
He said that it is like weakening the natural democracy of the island by appointing the officer of his choice. The Chief Minister alleged, & lsquo; & lsquo; the recent developments in Lakshadweep should be seen as the laboratory of the agenda of the Sangh Parivar. They are trying to change the culture, language, lifestyle and food habits of the people of the country according to their ideology. & Rsquo; & rsquo;
He said that the people of the Union Territory had to face & lsquo; & lsquo; corporate interests and Hinduist politics & rsquo; & rsquo; A strong voice should be raised against the attempt to enslave.
Vijayan said that it is the responsibility of the Central Government to ensure that the uniqueness of the Union Territory and its original inhabitants is preserved. He said that the administrators are challenging it and they should be relieved of their responsibilities. Opposition Congress leader VD Satishan supported the motion.
