Tokyo Olympics 2021: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting on Thursday to review India’s preparations for the Tokyo Olympics, which will begin within 50 days. In this, he emphasized that every need from vaccination of players to training facilities should be met as a top priority. Modi said that sports are in the heart of all of us and youth of the country are creating a strong culture of sports. He said that he would join them via video conference in July to inspire India’s Olympic contingent and extend best wishes to them on behalf of all Indians.
Modi said this about the players
PM Modi said that the best wishes of 135 crore Indians will be with the youth participating in the Olympics. He also said that with each player shining at the global level, thousands more people will be inspired to come to the games. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi was informed that a total of 100 players have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in 11 sports events. Also 25 more players are likely to qualify. According to this, a total of 19 Indian players had participated in the last Paralympics held in 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 26 Para players have qualified for Tokyo Paralympics and 16 more are likely to qualify.

Officials said that special attention will be given to motivate the players and boost their morale. He said that therefore regular video conferences will be held with his parents and family members in India during the Olympics starting from July 23. In this review meeting, the officials made a presentation on various aspects of operational preparedness for the upcoming games.

Modi was also informed that during the Kovid-19 pandemic there should be no hindrance in the training of players and various steps are being taken to ensure participation in international tournaments and vaccination of players to win Olympic quota. Modi directed that every qualifying sportsperson and potential athlete and support staff and officials traveling to Tokyo should be vaccinated at the earliest.
