ESIC cover: Municipal employees in the country will also get the benefit of ESIC’s social security, read full news


Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) will be given to casual and contractual employees working in municipal units across the country. Under this, medical facilities are provided to the employees in ESIS hospitals and dispensaries. The central government has decided to provide this facility to these employees under social security.

Union Labor Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar has said in a statement that all the ESICs have been directed to bring the casual and contract employees working in the municipal units under the purview of social security that they should apply to their respective states or union territories. To take up the matter with the Governments of India and ask them to issue appropriate notification under the ESIC Act.

Necessary for social security of employees
The statement said that since the National Capital Territory of Delhi comes under the Central Government, the Labor Minister has issued a notification in this regard on June 7 itself. Gangwar said, these employees working in ESIS are very insecure. So ESIS coverage will go a long way for their social security. It will also contribute significantly to their families and their social upliftment.

160 ESI hospitals across the country
Once the notification in this regard will be issued by the state government that the employees of the municipal units will become the officers to avail all the facilities of ESIS. Under ESIS facility, many facilities like free medical facility, disability benefit facility, delivery benefit, funeral benefit are provided to the employees and their dependent families in ESIS hospitals and dispensaries. The worker will get this facility in 160 ESI hospitals and 1500 dispensaries across the country. At present, this facility is given in enterprises where more than 10 employees are employed. This facility is for such employees whose salary is less than 15 thousand. For this, the employer has to pay a premium of 3.25 percent of the salary while the employees’ share is 0.75 percent.
