New Delhi: A meeting of the Union Cabinet is currently going on at the Prime Minister’s residence. After this there will also be a meeting of the Council of Ministers at five o’clock in the evening. This meeting to be held today is special in many ways. Due to the Corona era, after about a year, the Prime Minister is meeting physically instead of virtual. This time there will also be talks about the distribution of the work of the ministers of their ministry. This is the second cabinet and council of ministers meeting after the cabinet expansion.
Along with this, good news can come for the central employees in the cabinet meeting to be held today. A decision can be taken in the cabinet meeting to remove the ban on dearness allowance. Along with this, there is also a proposal to increase the dearness allowance by 3 percent.
Actually, since the start of Corona, there is a ban on the increase of dearness allowance. In the month of April, after the start of the Corona epidemic last year, the Union Cabinet had banned the release of two installments of dearness allowance to government employees. Since the installment of Dearness Allowance is released every six months. Once from January 1 while the second time from July 1. So this ban is over, but it can be approved in the cabinet today.
What is Dearness Allowance
In fact, due to rising inflation, the prices of goods go up and start reducing the purchasing power of the money available with the people. To counter this, the government gives dearness allowance to the employees so that people can face the increasing expenses and can buy the things they need despite the increase in the price.
How the government decides dearness allowance i.e. DA
For the calculation of dearness allowance i.e. DA, the government considers the inflation rate based on the All India Consumer Price Index as the basis and on the basis of this, the DA of government employees is revised every two years.
