Success Story Of IAS Topper Mandar Jayantrao PatkiThe UPSC Journey of Mandar Jayantrao Patki of Maharashtra is special. Particularly in the sense that Mandar seems to be breaking the general perception that the candidates have about UPSC. Neither was he always a brilliant student, nor did he take any coaching for UPSC and despite all this, neither did he have to give many tests to pass the exam. Mandar has cleared the UPSC exam with 22nd rank in his very first attempt.
Talking in an interview, Mandar says that first of all, get out of the myths about the UPSC exam. Like if you have a good educational background, then you will be successful, if you belong to the science stream, then there are more chances of success and don’t know what. Mandar says there is nothing like this. It doesn’t matter in UPSC, but it does matter whether you have the zeal to work hard or not, how dedicated are you to your goal. If you have all these qualities then no one can stop you from being successful. Today, we know about the strategy of Mandar. In fact, in an interview given to Delhi Knowledge Track, Mandar Patki told many important things.
Mandar believes in making plans and studying. They had two types of plans, a macro and a micro. Macros used to have distant plans according to the month and micro had week or day plans. If Mandar is asked what he will be studying in this month after three months, then he will tell you by looking at the plan. Only from this you can understand how much rule they used to follow regarding their time and planning. Talking in the interview, Mandar says that first of all it is necessary to choose the right guidance and the right resources. Start the preparation only after that. The basic mantra of Mandar preparation is Limited Resource and Multiple Revision. They do not believe in reading a lot of books, instead they recommend to revise only what they have read. Mandar says that first, finish the books according to the syllabus and keep making notes where necessary. After that give mock test to know where there is deficiency and how it can be rectified.
Choose the Optional Wisely
Mandar further states that select the option very carefully, because it proves very helpful from your selection to rank. When choosing it, it is most important that you are interested in it. Apart from preparing books for men, he places great emphasis on answer writing. Mandar says that no knowledge is of any use until you come to write the answer correctly. Talking about his books, he did not choose any particular book or source. Mandar had prepared from some of the famous writers’ books for UPSC. Like NCERT books, news papers for current affairs etc. Apart from this, the subject which is not understood by watching online videos can be cleared, believes Mandar. He also used to make crisp notes from it which can be easily revised later. He revised these notes fiercely a month before the examination.
Do not ignore essays and ethics
Mandar says that often candidates pay less attention to both these subjects or think that they will happen. Actually this mindset is very wrong. Prepare these papers thoroughly as they play an important role in making your rank. Mandar solved the model test paper for this. They also suggest case studies and quoting examples in it. In the end, Mandar gives this advice that plan everything so that the time is not wasted at all, do not consider the examination as larger than life. Try your best but there is no need to take much stress for this. Keep taking breaks in between studies and do not blindly believe anything said about UPSC. How your background has been or how you are studying does not matter. The day you prepare yourself for hard work, the way opens automatically.
