After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the cancellation of CBSE Class 12 exams, some states said they would reconsider conducting their respective state board exams. At the same time, some states said that they will soon take a final decision regarding the 12th examination.
The Uttar Pradesh government has said that it will reconsider its decision to conduct class XII board exams. Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma said that after the meeting of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the second week of July, the final decision on conducting or canceling the 12th board examination will be taken. Let us inform that on May 29, the state had announced the cancellation of Class X exams and said that Class XII exams would be conducted in the second week of July.
Welcoming the move by the central government to cancel the CBSE Class 12 exams, state education minister Varsha Gaikwad on Tuesday indicated a similar decision for the state board exams. Gaikwad said, “The state government believes that the health and safety of children is above all. After consulting the education department officials, we will soon announce the decision of Maharashtra State Board for Higher and Secondary School Class XII examination.” Let us inform that the HSC examination in Maharashtra has been postponed twice due to the huge increase in the cases of corona infection.
The Haryana government has also canceled the class XII examination conducted by the state board. Education Minister Kanwar Pal said on Tuesday, “We are going with the decision taken by the Center and have decided to cancel the board examinations.” He said that the state board would take steps to compile the results of class XII students and the modalities for the same would be worked out soon. Let us inform that the Haryana government had also canceled the 10th class examination to be conducted by the state board on 15 April and after that the 12th examination was postponed.
Sources in the West Bengal government said on Tuesday that it is not clear whether the state government will go ahead with the state board examinations. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) are to hold a joint news conference on Wednesday to announce the dates for class X and XII board examinations. Sources in the state education department said that the heads of both the boards are to make the final announcement at 2 pm on Wednesday.
The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has called a meeting today to take a decision on conducting the state board’s 12th examination.
Rajasthan Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra has said that the final decision on conducting the board exams will be taken in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday after consulting Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
Uttarakhand Education Minister Arvind Pandey said that he will discuss the state board examinations with Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat and soon a decision will be taken in the interest of students and teachers. The minister said that the current COVID situation of the state will also be considered while taking the decision. There is a possibility that the examinations can be canceled.
