New DelhiThe Union Health Ministry has made arrangements with Hyderabad-based vaccine manufacturer Biological-E to reserve 30 crore vaccine doses. The vaccine dose of Biological-E will be manufactured between August-December 2021. For this, the Union Health Ministry has made an advance payment of Rs 1500 crore to M/s Biologicals-E.
The corona vaccine of Biological-E is currently in the third phase trial. The first two phases of this vaccine have been completed, which had good results. The vaccine being developed by Biological-E is an RBD protein sub-unit vaccine and is likely to be available in the next few months.
This arrangement with M/s Biologicals-E is part of a wider effort of the Government of India to provide research and development support and financial assistance to indigenous vaccine manufacturers. Biologicals-E Corona Vaccine Candidate has been supported by the Government of India from preclinical stage to phase-3 studies. The Department of Biotechnology has not only provided financial assistance in the form of grants-in-aid of more than Rs.100 crore, but also through its research institute Translational Health Science Technology Institute Faridabad (THSTI) for conducting all animal trials and studies in Biologicals-E. partnered with.
Corona vaccination campaign in India is using three vaccines out of which two are indigenous i.e. Made in India.
