Eminent Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta passed away today. He was 77 years old. Buddhadeb Dasgupta breathed his last this morning at his Kolkata residence. He was battling kidney disease for a long time.
According to reports, he was ill for more than a year and was undergoing dialysis for a long time. Even today he was about to undergo dialysis, but before that he said goodbye to the world.
Dasgupta was a big name in both filmmaking and literature. His famous films include Bagh Bahadur, Tahader Katha, Charachar and Uttara. Five of his films have also won the National Film Award for Best Film.
He has received National Awards for Best Direction twice for the films Uttara and Swapner Din.

He is also known as a poet. His last film is Urojahaj which was released in 2018. He was awarded the Life Time Achievement Award at the Spain International Film Festival in 2008.
Buddhadev Das Gupta has also made Hindi films. His Hindi film Andhi Gali was released in 1984 in which Deepti Naval, Mahesh Bhatt and Kulbhushan Kharbanda are in lead roles. In 2013, his dark comedy film Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa was released which stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi. The film also talks about the evil practices and taboos of the society.
